Makokola retreat
Makokola retreat is the perfect place to base yourself and go out on excursions to explore the life and traditions of the people of rural Africa. The many villages, little rural towns and historic missions in the vicinity of the Hotel are ideal for excursions. Makokola retreat is also the perfect place to relax and recover from the exertions of safari and to enjoy all the facilities of the Lake. A family owned Hotel it also offers such luxuries as a nine hole golf course, squash courts, tennis, swimming pools and a range of water sports on the shores of one of the world's great but hidden lakes.
The Rooms
Suites have a sleeping area and a lounge tastefully furnished and own mini-bar with tea and coffee facilities. The bathrooms are divided into three areas, one for the two vanity basins, one for the toilet and one for the shower and bathtub. Each suite has its own veranda with breath taking views over the lake. All the suites are set in a beautiful corner of the hotel's gardens.
The rooms are furnished in the same style as the suites and have large bathrooms with double vanity basin, bathtub and separate shower. All rooms have a private veranda with views of the lake. Some of the rooms are family rooms, conveniently situated next to the hotel pool and bar/restaurant.
Air Charters
Makokola retreat has its own airport served by a schedule IATA airline with regular flights and charters to many destination in the country and the neighbouring region. Information can be supplied on request.
Sports
The Hotel offers a wide range of sports facilities including two tennis courts, beach volleyball, mini soccer, squash, cycling, table tennis and two swimming pools. One of the tennis courts, the beach volleyball and the mini soccer field are floodlit, so an evening game may be enjoyed if desired. The Hotel has its own beautifully maintained Golf Club and course details can be found below.
Water Sports include parasailing, water skiing, boardsailing, wake-snake and tube.
The Hotel also has a catamaran which can be used for excursions and sunset cruises and owns the MV. Sunbird, a 23mt steel colonial style cruiser, which can carry up to 20 people on day excursions and sleep nine in simple accommodation. Details of excursions can be found below.
